Gray Mazda RX-8. Find Mazda RX-8 Insurance.

Making its debut at the 2001 North American International Trade Show, the Mazda RX-8 quickly built a huge fan base as a result of its 1.3-liter rotary engine that generated 9,000 RPM. There was simply no competition in the rotary category.

In 2011, RX-8 lovers rewarded the carmaker by ranking the RX-8 number six in the Affordable Sports Cars category, according to U.S. News & World Report. But even with the newsworthy progress of the RX-8, Mazda decided to announce the party was over in 2012.

Is the RX-8 Safe to Drive?

If Mazda did anything right with the stylish and sporty RX-8, it was the safety features. The RX-8 delivered superior results, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's rating of the 2010 model (note that 2011 wasn't rated).

The car offered 29 different safety features for the 2011 model before stopping production, not too shabby for a car priced at less than $20,000. More importantly, safety features translate to lower insurance rates, which translate to lower cost of ownership.

How Much Does It Cost to Insure a Mazda RX-8?

The average annual cost of insurance for a Mazda RX-8 is approximately $750. That is a favorable rate, but what helps keep it so low?

Mazda consistently produces vehicles with outstanding safety features, and the RX-8 is no different. Multiple airbags, active safety constraints, dynamic stability control and a reinforced body structure are a few of the safety features that help prevent injury should a collision occur.

This decreases liability for insurance companies regarding medical costs, which results in a lower premium overall. This is why insurance for the Mazda RX-8 is lower than the national average.

There are other factors that determine the cost of your auto insurance. These include:

  • Type of vehicle
  • Driver profile (age/gender/credit history/criminal history)
  • Location of vehicle
  • Primary use of vehicle

Since the RX-8 has been discontinued, there may be some higher insurance costs to deal with. This would only affect the physical damage coverage, because vehicle parts may be harder to come by since the car is no longer on the market.

The increased rates, however, are not likely to be significant, and the liability coverage rates should be stable because of the many safety features on the vehicle.
