MEMIC does not publish an average claim response time frame, but the company does boast a better than 90% on time payment benchmark.

What is MEMIC’s customer service availability?

MEMIC offers customer service by phone, with no published business hours. Customers can also reach the insurance company by phone, fax, email, and via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

What is MEMIC’s claims process?

Employers should report an injury to MEMIC as soon as is possible when you have been given notice or have knowledge of an employee's injury. All claims should be reported to MEMIC within 24 hours of your notice or knowledge of the injury.

You can choose one of four ways to report an injury, including MEMIC’s Injury Reporting Portal.

  1. Submit an online injury report
  2. Submit an injury report by phone
  3. Submit an injury report by fax (fax injury report form is available from your state’s workers’ compensation agency)
  4. Mail an injury report form to MEMIC within 24 hours

When you report an injury to MEMIC, you’ll need the following information.

  • Your MEMIC policy number
  • The injured employee's name
  • The employee’s demographic information (social security number, date of birth, address)
  • Date of injury
  • Date you were notified of the injury

After an injury is reported, the employee will be assigned a claim handler. Typically, each state sets a time frame on the number of days MEMIC has to conduct a thorough investigation of the claim before it makes a decision to either pay or deny the claim.

Does MEMIC create a user-friendly experience for customers?

MEMIC’s official website offers a lot of information for both employers and employees, including a variety of claims resources and reporting options. Several topic-specific online forms are also available to get quick customer service.

Does MEMIC have good workers’ compensation insurance?

MEMIC focuses on safety training in addition to providing workers’ compensation insurance. What’s more, by working to resolve disputes between employers and employees, assuring appropriate medical care for injured workers, and making timely payments for indemnity benefits, the company has become a leader in the area of medical case management and return-to-work strategies.

Since MEMIC's founding in 1993, lost-time injuries in Maine have been reduced by 50 percent. The overall cost of work comp insurance in Maine has been reduced by about 60 percent, and MEMIC has remained the leader in workers’ compensation insurance in the state, insuring more than 60 percent of the state’s insured employers.

MEMIC is also seen as a work comp innovator. In 2008, the carrier became the first company to introduce employment practices liability insurance (EPLI) as an endorsement to its workers’ compensation policies. EPLI protects employers from lawsuits claiming wrongful termination, retaliation, failure to employ or promote, sexual harassment, and discrimination related to gender, age, race or disability.
